Well it was a first test full of controversy, with the Aussies decapitating the English force. Bouncers and sledging were the flavour of the match, and look like they will continue throughout this whole series.
1ST TEST WRAP-UP
No surprises in who was the best performed, with Mitchell Johnson racking up a huge 327 points in his amazing all-round display which included 103 runs, 9 wickets and a catch.
All-Rounder Stuart Broad collected 232 points, terrorising the locals with a first innings five four, one more point than Brad Haddin's 231, while David Warner (205) and Ryan Harris (141) rounded out the top 5 scorers, being well rewarded for their solid performances.
Jonathan Trott (19 points) had a disappointing game, and has since revealed he is struggling from a stress-related illness and has gone home to England. If he is in your team, he has to go. He won't be back this Summer.
TEAM NEWS
Joe Root (28) looks set to replace him at number 3, with Zimbabwean born Gary Ballance looking the most likely to fit in at number 6. Tim Bresnan also looks like he will be fit enough to play and will force Chris Tremlett (107) out of the side.
The Australians will be likely to keep their line-up the same, but coach Darren Lehmann has hinted at possibly dropping George Bailey for James Faulkner for his extra bowling abilities. It would be tough luck for Bailey, who scored an impressive 73 points on debut, which could point towards bigger scores still to come.
PITCH AND CONDITIONS
Thursday will be the first test match at the re-designed Adelaide Oval, and the first time that drop-in pitches will be used here. Both Sheffield Shield matches here have resulted in a draw this Summer, so expect this to be a batsman's game.
The spinner Graeme Swann (64 points) is expected to come into play more, with the pitch set to offer some turn, as well as picking up 4 wickets in the Alice Springs tour match on the weekend. He had a bad game in Brisbane, but world class players like him don't stay down for too long.
CAPTAINCY CORNER
As for captaincy choices, I think a batsman is the go this week, and Michael Clarke made a 200 in a day here last Summer against a fearsome South African pace attack. He showed that he is still in good form and can bat at 4 in with a big ton in the last game, and I expect him to go big again in Adelaide. Graeme Swann could be another choice who could do really well at the Adelaide Oval.
TRADE TABLE
Personally, I am making two trades this week. Mitchell Johnson is just in ripping form right now and comes into my side at the expense of Graeme Swann. This means I need to get rid of an Aussie somewhere, so Shane Watson also goes out for Stuart Broad, who seems to be enjoying being the hated man this Summer.
If you have Jonathan Trott make sure he goes out of your team, as well as Chris Tremlett. Looking at getting in Johnson if you can, and Kevin Pietersen is also a nice buy.
